Music At Our Heart

What is Mental Health?

We firmly believe that Music has benefits beyond itself as a discrete subject, and all too often our belief is confirmed with scientific study after scientific study showing the positive aspects of playing an instrument.

With this in mind, we pride ourselves on having the flexibility and capability to deliver a curriculum steeped in performance and playing, whilst also offering an intensely musical curriculum for children who might be considering a career in that field.

All pupils are required to play at least one instrument, and are given a private lesson every week. There are group music lessons and ensemble playing, and we take every opportunity to perform within our own community. We also take great delight in offering music workshops to Primary schools; our pupils are involved in delivering these.

We are lucky enough to have three recording artists and a wealth of professional music experience embedded in our staff, as well as connections to the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and many of the regional orchestras.

There are no requirements to come to Kimichi except one.

You should be passionate about Music; we are!

Even if you don’t yet play anything, you’ll need to when you come here. On your trial day, we’ll assess you in a private music lesson, or, if you already play an instrument, we will ask you to perform one piece of music. These are considered audition processes, and will help to determine whether this is the right place for you. If it is, your educational journey will take on a new lease of life, and you’ll find that every person connected with school, be they staff or friend, is dedicated to helping you soar.

“Music is a more potent instrument than any other for education, because rhythm and harmony find their way into the inward places of the soul” – Plato.
