FAQs

Are you a free school?
No we are currently a fee-paying school. Please visit our fees page to find out more about this.

Do you already have to play an instrument to attend the school?
Not at all! However, students are encouraged to start learning a musical instrument, of their choice, once they start their education at Kimichi School.

We don’t live in Birmingham. Can my child still attend school?
Yes – we welcome children from anywhere in the UK, as along as they have somewhere to live, close to the school. We are currently exploring options for a week-day boarding school.

Are there musical instruments available for my child to use?
Absolutely – we have a very wide selection of instruments available. Every classroom has a piano in it, and the school boasts a total of 4 grand pianos! Instrumental lessons are available to every pupil, and these come as standard with the child’s education.

Do the children do whatever they like?
We have a very strong Student Council. The school is run by the students, for the students – with a great deal of assistance and guidance from the school staff.

Why don’t you do SATs?
At no point moving forward will anyone will be asked “what did you get in your SATs?” We believe that the best way to form an opinion about secondary target grades is to get to know the individual child. For these reasons (and many more), we do not do SATs.

Will my child be allowed to attend school on a part-time basis?
We always welcome students wishing to flexi-school. However, school attendance must be a minimum of 3 days per week.

How many pupils are in your classes?
We currently have 12 students per class.
